La tesis de Kathia Sánchez cuestiona las irrumpidas relaciones sociales del individuo, se hace un estudio urbano de los espacios vacíos vistos como un gran potencial. Primeramente, se analiza el tejido urbano de la ciudad de San Juan caracterizado por los cambios del regimen colonial y la integración de nuevas máquinas como el automóvil. En reacción al desparrame urbano se toman como precedentes tres teorías para la utilización referencial de nuevos espacios sociales: “Nuevo Urbanismo”, Transit Oriented Development y Bus Rapid Transit. Por otro lado, habría una integración de los components que forman la ciudad como la vivienda, espacios de ocio, trabajo, comercio y transporte colectivo. En conclusión, nuevos espacios sociales serán generados como producto de una nueva reestructuración de la infraestructura moderna. Este análisis y diseño es pertinente por la importancia de la revitalización de la vida urbana y en la reorganización del tejido urbano de la ciudad de San Juan para el beneficio del individuo peatonal.

Kathia’s research questions the disrupted social relations of the individuals; through an urban analysis the potential of empty spaces is identified. First, the urban grid of the city of San Juan is analysed characterised by changes in the colonial regime and by the integration of new machines such as automobiles. In response to urban sprawl, three precedents are taken into account due to the referential use of new social spaces: New Urbanism, Transit Oriented Development and Bus Rapid Transit. Furthermore, the project integrates components of the city such as leisure, work and commercial spaces, housing and public transport systems. In conclusion, new social spaces will be generated as a result of the redevelopment of a new modern infra-structure. This analysis and design is essential for the revival of the urban life of the city. The reorganisation of the fundamental components of the city of San Juan is beneficial for urban residents.
