Actualmente en Puerto rico no hay seguridad alimentaria. Esto se debe a que el 70% de los alimentos son importados. El centro de producción agrícola es un estereotipo programático creado con el propósito de entrelazar lo rural y lo urbano. Se demuestra que en la cuidad sí se puede incluir la agricultura como parte fundamental de la vida de las personas. Es importante tener contacto directo con los alimentos que ingerimos. Xiomara Medina propone un programa para su propuesta que se resume:

PRODUCCION + DISTRIBUCION + VENTA

La meta es recrear la vegetación que existió en el terreno original de la cuidad en donde se hace viable completar el ciclo de producción agrícola. Medina incorpora cultivos en la cuidad logrando un sentido de pertenencia y comunidad al lugar. Gracias al Centro de Producción Agrícola la población se integra y revalora los espacios verdes efectivos. De igual manera se integra la seguridad alimentaria al ciclo de producción de alimentos a través reactivando los espacios baldíos en la cuidad. El Centro Agrícola establece una relación directa con el ecosistema donde los espacios verdes son productivos y cumplen con la necesidad de su población.

El proyecto posee espacios de cultivo y una zona principal de producción que son estratégicamente colocados en el lado del predio donde se recibe la mayor cantidad de luz. El acceso vehicular y estacionamiento conecta con el segundo espacio de cultivos enfatizando las relaciones entre el público general y el cultivo. El atrio central es el núcleo del proyecto conectando los distintos procesos del cultivo en un edificio de ocho niveles. Para brindar sombras Xiomara Medina articula unas bandas con formas angulares que cubre el techo de la torre de oficinas que se convierte en el tercer espacio de cultivo. Con este edificio Medina logra que las personas vean el cultivo más allá de lo ornamental.

The goal is to recreate the existing vegetation in the original terrain in the city where is viable to complete agricultural production cycle. Medina incorporates crops in the city achieving sense of place to the community. The agriculture production center makes population reevaluated and integrates effective green spaces. At the same time incorporates food security to the production cycle reactivating spaces in the city. The center resolve and establish the direct relationship with the ecosystem where the green spaces are productive and meets with the necessity of the population.

The project has spaces of cultivation and a primary zone of production which are strategically placed on the side of the venue where it receives the highest amount of light. The vehicular access and parking connects with the second space of crops emphasizing the relationship between the general public and the production. The central atrium is the core of the project connecting the different processes of the crop in a building of eight levels. To provide shadows Xiomara Medina articulates some bands with angular shapes that covers the roof of the office tower that becomes the third space of cultivation. With this building Medina achieves that people see the cultivation beyond the ornamental.
