El arte urbano ha adquirido interés como estrategia para denunciar problemas y proponer cambios en ciudades olvidadas. Mediante su investigación, Irene Nedderman pretende entender este proceso llevado a cabo con mayor insistencia en los últimos años en la calle Cerra y así discutir la profundidad de transformación y cambio que el arte puede generar en la ciudad. Utilizando las teorías de Kevin Lynch y a través de un ensayo fotográfico, estudia la relación entre el sujeto y su entorno físico que define la calidad de vida que existe en este barrio. El diseño arquitectónico que ofrece como resultado de su investigación, mantiene el carácter y escala de las edificaciones existentes prestando atención a sus alturas, retranqueos, perspectivas y materiales. Su propuesta incluye edificios de uso mixto que reúnen actividades para generar interacción social y rescatar esta zona céntrica de la ciudad de San Juan.

Urban art has gained recognition as a strategy to address problems and propose changes in forgotten cities. Through her research, Irene Nedderman studies how this process has been carried out with greater emphasis in recent years on Cerra Street. She discusses the depth of transformation and change that art can generate in the city. Using the theories of Kevin Lynch and through a photo essay, Nedderman charts the relationship between the subject and its physical environment that defines the existant quality of life in this neighborhood. The architectural design offered as a result of her research maintains the character and scale of existing buildings paying attention to their heights, setbacks and materials. Her proposal includes mixed-­‐use buildings that bring activities to generate social interaction and rescue this central area of the city of San Juan.
